travel journal

Over the years, I have had the amazing experience of being able to travel the world and see many of its incredible locations all over this fine globe. In my adventures, I have tried my best to record what I saw, where I went, and how I got around in an effort to help others understand these places a bit better and hopefully entice everyone to go out and explore the places they always dreamed of. In my writings I hope to give you just enough information to light that fire in you to explore on your own. If you would like more information, or even to swap stories of your own, please feel free to email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. And, keep an eye out for more and more entries to come! There is so much in this world to explore, and so much to learn. Life is a journey! Live it!

Travel Responsibly

  1. Don't Be Rude – People respond to kindness much better than negativity. “You catch more bees with honey than vinegar”
  2. Don't Litter – Keep places as beautiful as you found them. They didn't have that trash in the photo from the guide book that got you wanting to go to that spot on the first place.
  3. Be Thoughtful of Surroundings – Some places have been there for hundreds of years, so be careful not to damage them so that others can continue to enjoy them.
  4. Tip When You Can - It is not necessary in every place around the world, but always welcome. Gratitude is always appreciated.
  5. Put a Little Slack in Your Schedule - You never know when you might want to stay somewhere a little longer. And you might just get stuck somewhere involuntarily. Planes DO get delayed from time to time.
  6. Mind the Time of Year - Some places do have all four different seasons, and others don't. Do your research, pack for the estimated climate, but always pack a jacket or a swimsuit.
  7. Remember, Not Everyone Speaks English - Learn a few words or phrases in the language of where you travel to. Not everyone speaks English, so don’t expect them to. People respond kindly to someone even attempting to speak the local language.

London - July 2007

In continuing our trip a bit further out, my buddy Jim and I took another train from Paris under the English Channel to the center of London. The train ride was awesome and going through the tunnel under the water of the English Channel was a cool experience. A few coordination issues with the lifts and such, but nothing too drastic-- nothing I can’t handle.

Melbourne - May 2007

…Now for the second leg of our trip. We flew out of Hong Kong the evening of the 10th on Cathay Pacific flight (www.cathaypacific.com) on an Airbus A-380 in first class once again. We were pampered all the way by the Cathay Pacific crew! I was the only one awake on an overnight flight in the first class cabin yet again on the 9 hour trip to Melbourne. We were almost diverted to Sydney due to some seriously thick fog, but we just made it in time to miss the fog. Melbourne Airport a.k.a. Tullamarine (www.melbourneairport.com.au/) was very easy to navigate and the people were very friendly.

Paris - July 2007
July 20th-24th, 2007

The first day of the trip was spent on the train from Lausanne, Switzerland to Paris. We had a bit of coordination issues at both ends for the wheelchair access in and out of the train, but got to the destination as planned, so no need to fuss. Arriving at Paris’ North Station was pretty easy and then just getting a taxi to the hotel.

Hong Kong - May 2007

I have left Geneva for London and on to Hong Kong. Once again the TSA’s at Geneva Airport push me right through and give me the rock star entrance.

Interlaken - June 2007

Today my buddy Jim and I decided to take a drive up from Lutry to Interlaken, Switzerland for a impromptu over-night trip. We packed our bags and jumped in his BMW X3 and headed north. The drive up was great. The roads in Switzerland are really quite nice and not much traffic at all on the freeways. Coming into the city was breath-taking! Interlaken is its namesake being right in a picturesque valley on a little strip of land between to gorgeous lakes. Jim got a room at the Victoria JungFrau Hotel (www.Victoria-JungFrau.ch) right in the downtown area of Interlaken. This was a very elegant hotel right near the city’s center, built in 1865, and has been host to many different famous people over the years, for example; during the Second World War the hotel was used by the Swiss Army Chief of Staff, General Henri Guisan as his headquarters.

Munich - April 2007

Today I am off to Munich, Germany for the weekend to check out some night clubs and maybe a museum, even a cathedral or two. The airport is very cool in Geneva. There were elevators everywhere and it was all very accessible - even the restrooms. There is actually one check-in desk that was for assistive only and as usual, no checked bags for me. I am just carrying my new Kelty (www.Kelty.com) daypack.
