"Cure" for Paralysis

Maybe it’s because I haven’t had my coffee yet, but I am SO over seeing people write all this mess about “curing” paralysis. Cure Paralysis Project, Rise Up to Cure Paralysis, Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and so on.. Yes, I know there are some diseases that can cause paralysis in us humans, but the gross majority of people past, present and I am sure future are paralyzed from DAMAGE to the spinal column, like myself.

This is an injury, NOT a disease and you don’t CURE an injury, you REPAIR it. You CURE cancer. Well, maybe not.. And that gets me goin’ on a whole nother tangent that I am not even going to start on right now. All I am saying is that we need to get our terms correct on this.

My soccer coach once stood in front of a large group of my fellow players and family members at a banquet one year and spoke of the time when I might get “fixed”. This was the source of great laughter amongst the crowd as everyone had images of neutering running through their minds. This was yet another example of the wrong term used to describe the act of reversing the damage done to someone’s spinal cord, but “fixed” is even a better word to describe it than “cured”.

Forgive me if this is off base. Correct me if I am wrong. I welcome our comments on this topic. I am off to get a coffee!
