travel journal

Over the years, I have had the amazing experience of being able to travel the world and see many of its incredible locations all over this fine globe. In my adventures, I have tried my best to record what I saw, where I went, and how I got around in an effort to help others understand these places a bit better and hopefully entice everyone to go out and explore the places they always dreamed of. In my writings I hope to give you just enough information to light that fire in you to explore on your own. If you would like more information, or even to swap stories of your own, please feel free to email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. And, keep an eye out for more and more entries to come! There is so much in this world to explore, and so much to learn. Life is a journey! Live it!

Travel Responsibly

  1. Don't Be Rude – People respond to kindness much better than negativity. “You catch more bees with honey than vinegar”
  2. Don't Litter – Keep places as beautiful as you found them. They didn't have that trash in the photo from the guide book that got you wanting to go to that spot on the first place.
  3. Be Thoughtful of Surroundings – Some places have been there for hundreds of years, so be careful not to damage them so that others can continue to enjoy them.
  4. Tip When You Can - It is not necessary in every place around the world, but always welcome. Gratitude is always appreciated.
  5. Put a Little Slack in Your Schedule - You never know when you might want to stay somewhere a little longer. And you might just get stuck somewhere involuntarily. Planes DO get delayed from time to time.
  6. Mind the Time of Year - Some places do have all four different seasons, and others don't. Do your research, pack for the estimated climate, but always pack a jacket or a swimsuit.
  7. Remember, Not Everyone Speaks English - Learn a few words or phrases in the language of where you travel to. Not everyone speaks English, so don’t expect them to. People respond kindly to someone even attempting to speak the local language.

Sydney Hospital - January 2009

After I was airlifted to Sydney and after 3 days in the ICU, I was transferred to the Severe Burns Unit where I would begin the recovery stage of my journey. The spinal ward was full at the time so the decision was made to send me to a burns ward where they could still handle my chemical burn that covered pretty much the entire left side of my back.

Rome - September 2007

While I was away on a trip, my girlfriend met up with me in Switzerland for a mini tour. I was already there on my own at a wheelchair tennis tournament in Austria and I finally talked her into doing some traveling with me, after some poking and prodding. I went straight there by train from Salzburg, Austria after the tournament was over. I hopped in a cab at the train station to get me to the airport to meet her in Amsterdam at the Schiphol Airport. We found each other inside after a couple phone calls bantering back and forth “where are you?”, “I’m over here”, “Where?”. It had been over a month since I had seen her so I was so happy to see that she had made it unscathed from the flight.

Melbourne - December 2008

Now that all the Christmas formalities are done, I am packed and ready to head back to Australia where it is warm and there isn’t any SNOW! My buddy drives me and another friend down to the Amtrak station that’s about a half hour from my place and we promptly jump on and stuff our luggage on the shelf. We were running a bit late due to the lovely snowy weather in Michigan so we got there just as the train was pulling up. It is a 4 hour ride to Union Station in Chicago and goes without a hitch. It is so nice to not have to worry about traffic or anything, just a warm, chill ride to downtown to Chicago.>/p>

Salzburg - August 2007

Today, I am off to Salzburg Austria to Check out an international wheelchair tennis tournament and check in on a booth space that one of the companies, Lasher Sport, has at the tournament as well. I am taking the train from Lausanne, Switzerland where I am staying with a good friend for a while. Getting on the train in Lausanne goes well. I get my ticket and make my way to the platform where I am greeted by one of the staff with their lift to help me on. The first train takes me to Zurich where I change trains with a bit of a layover. I meet an older couple from Australia as they remark about the Australian flag patch on my pack. It is amazing those little conversations with random people that brighten your day.

Accessible Racing

In June of 2008, I was chosen to be one of eight "celebrity drivers" for the Accessible Racing program. We all got together in Andover, Massachusetts for our "Skid School" training on the first day. We were instructed in Emergency Braking, Slalom, and Navigating an Auto-Cross Course. Then the crew all headed on to Woodstock, New Hampshire for a day on the track at the White Mountain Racetrack.
